I've given it as a gift to at least 2 people. I love the key cover far more than I like the other but, the original US cover I feel goes along with the story so well. So, while I feel like I'd be more inclined to pick up the one with the amazing old key, after reading the book I liked the two girls cover so much more! I can't choose. I love them both.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-997174738664182569.post-51477610287783248472011-10-27T07:45:11.633-07:002011-10-27T07:45:11.633-07:00Actually these covers are two hardcovers: the firs...Actually these covers are two hardcovers: the first one is the American edition and the second one is the UK edition. The paperbacks are completely different (check them out - I think you'll love the American one in particular).

I like both of these, but the American version is more subtle. The red ribbon around both girls' necks is VERY symbolic on several levels: it's the mark of the guillotine; it's what mourners wore to victims' balls after the French Revolution; and it ties these two girls together (as does the book itself - turns out, they are really the same character in a story that repeats itself over and over through history).Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-997174738664182569.post-16565210862758996562011-10-24T21:26:35.456-07:002011-10-24T21:26:35.456-07:00I'm with you on the paperback cover. As to why it may look adult, maybe it's because of the other girls' face- the painting one. If there was another photo of a girl there and not a painting, probably it would look more YA. But you got to give it to the design team for thinking out of the box. Man, I'm talking too much! Okay, paperback.

I love the key, too. It reminds me of Lock and Key by Sarah Dessen. But that's not why I like it. It's because the key looks awesome!mfay2https://www.blogger.com/profile/00688397148424852472noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-997174738664182569.post-31665531320424543582011-10-23T15:17:42.891-07:002011-10-23T15:17:42.891-07:00I actually liked the original cover better because...I actually liked the original cover better because of the contrast between the two main characters in the book. But I guess you do make a good point of how it looks a bit more adultish :D I probably wouldn't have read it if I hadn't read a previous book from the author.

OH! And it is a pretty awesome book! I absolutely loved it :DCleohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03515295861081038489noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-997174738664182569.post-54112369850492302732011-10-23T07:18:56.532-07:002011-10-23T07:18:56.532-07:00I like the paperback cover.
