Super Six Sunday: Those book series that I STILL need to read!

Super Six Sunday is a new meme hosted by Bewitched Bookworms and inspired by The Broke and the Bookishes Top Ten Tuesday.

This week it's all about the book series that I need to finally read. I'm so glad this popped up as a topic because I've been planning on doing a post about this for awhile now and just haven't gotten around to it till now.

When I first started my blog Matched was just coming out and I remember there was so much hype surrounding it. I totally bought into the hype so, not surprisingly, it ended up falling a bit short for me and I never got around to reading Crossed or Reached. I'm sort of on the fence about finishing this series. On one hand I'm really curious to know what happens and if it got any better, but on the other hand I don't really want to waste my time on a series that isn't worth it. Thoughts?

This is sort of embarrassing for me to admit, but I haven't actually read all of the Chronicles of Narnia books. Crazy right? I'm pretty sure I've only read The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (because who hasn't?), and Prince Caspian. I also think my mom read The Horse and His Boy aloud to my sister and me when we were kids, but that doesn't really count. The reason I haven't read these is because after listening to Focus on the Family's radio dramas of the books so many times (seriously, they're amazing) I sort of feel like I don't have to anymore. Of course, I don't really believe that, but the content of the radio dramas is pretty much all dialogue and descriptions straight out of the books so it's almost like reading them. I'll get around to finishing this series eventually, I just haven't yet. I WILL READ ALL OF THEM, I PROMISE!

Because I'm such a huge fan of The Hunger Games I of course want to check out Suzanne Collin's other popular series the Underland Chronicles. Anyone of my lovely followers a fan of this series? I love the concept of it, and I've heard really good things. It's just that longish series tend to scare me off, especially when they're all already published. Everything seems so much more manageable when it's just one book a year you know?

This series has been recommended to me by a bunch of my friends and on top of that I totally I love the concept behind it. I just haven't gotten around to reading it yet. I REALLY NEED TO THOUGH. The blend of magic, con-men, and mystery sounds so awesome! Also, I'm pretty sure that we can all agree that Holly Black is amazeballs. I really need to devote some time to reading these!

I read The Lost Hero and really enjoyed it, but I have yet to read The Son of Neptune and The Mark of Athena. The thing with this series is it's like my book intimidation kryptonite: the books are huge and I'm two books behind. Fortunately there is still time for me to catch up a bit before The House of Hades comes out, but not much. I should probably take advantage of that time before it's too late and at least read The Son of Neptune.

I want to read this series SO BAD. You have no idea how bad I want to read it. I also want it on my shelf even though I haven't read it yet. The covers are just amazing, I love the fact that Scott Westerfeld got a special illustrator to help bring the books to life, and everything about it sounds so awesome. I really do have to read this series pronto. In fact I should probably put Leviathan on hold at the library right now.

So those are my top 6 book series that I still need to read or finish. What are some of the book series that you've been procrastinating on? Do we share some of the same ones, or are yours completely different from mine?

Julia :)

  1. I was going to put the Matched Trilogy on my list--I'm participating this week because of you!--but because I have heard so many disappointing things about it, I refrained. The concept sounds awesome but apparently it's not executed very well? Plus, I just have way too many other books I need to read. Don't feel bad about The Chronicles of Narnia! I've only read the L,W,&W book...about 4 times, ha! I've seen, and own, all the movies but just never really felt compelled to finish reading the books. Not sure why! I LOVE The Curse Workers books. I need to read these as well, especially if I end up loving THE COLDEST GIRL IN COLDTOWN. I love the Percy Jackson movies--well, the first one but Sea of Monsters looks awesome!--but haven't read any of the books. I have no excuse with that one. I'm not a huge steampunk fan but I'm curious to see what you think of Leviathan Trilogy once you read them!

  2. Oh yes Julia, I definitely need to read the Curse Workers series too! Or anything by Holly Black because I have yet to try her. I love, love, love the new covers they did for these books, they're gorgeous! I read Matched and loved that one, Crossed was a bit slow, and then I never made it to Reached. I need to do that though, I like to finish series I've started!

  3. Thanks, Julia, for joining our meme!

I totally forgot about Matched. I have a copy at home, but that's another one that I never got around to reading. The Leviathan trilogy is another one that u want to read too. Never read anything by Holly Black either. You just reminded me that my pile is even larger than I remember! Lol.

  4. I haven't read the Matched series, but everyone keeps going on about them, so I probably should read them sometime!
I didn't actually know that SC had another series, but I'll definitely be checking them out. I know what you mean by it being daunting when the whole series is released. On the other hand, if you really like them, you can devour them in one!
You should really read The Curseworkers series, I've only read the first but they're really good! Great post Julia!

  5. I have only read the first book in the Curse Worker series but I know I will want to follow up with the series.
I was not the biggest fan of the Matched series mainly because I'm a little tired of Dystopian...

Just like you, I am dying to read the Leviathan Trilogy!!

I absolutely love Rick Riodan and just like you I am seriously behind!;(

  6. I love the Heroes of Olympus Series. Rick Riordan's books are fantastic! I will say, I loved Matched, but Crossed was ok, and it got a little better in Reached. And Narnia is fun. I've only read 4 of the books, I hope to finish them soon.

I haven't read the Leviathan series either, it does look good.

  7. YES! You must read the Heroes of Olympus series! I love Rick Riordan's work, and I swear I'm never disappointed. I stopped the Matched series, but perhaps one day I'll give it a go again. I'd have to put Ender's Game on my list :)

  8. Some great series on that list! I agree with Melissa -- you've got to read the Heroes of Olympus. I also really enjoyed the Curse Workers series.

  9. Great list! Aw, the Narnia books will always hold their special place in my heart :) I read Matched and liked it but not enough to continue the series. Ah, the Leviathan series...well. I tried the first one and found out that there IS such a thing as "too steampunk" for me. It was a long time ago, though---now that I've read other steampunk and loved it, maybe I should give it another try. :D

  10. Good list! Although I usually prefer realism to magic, I still loved The White Cat. Holly Black writes so well. I adored the Narnia books as a kid. Another good one is Laura Reseau's Notebook series.

  11. I went 'yep me too' for every book on this list while scrolling down lol!
I was so proud of myself that I read Riordan's first book of the Kane Chronicles that I forgot all about the Heros of Olympus series lol! Definitely want to read all these books- especially Chronicles of Narnia (I read the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe in 3rd grade, you're right, who hasn't read that one?! but don't remember much lol) And totally want to read the Holly Black series, it'll be my first book read by her!
Hope you get a chance to read these! :)
