Waiting on Wednesday [24]

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted over at Breaking The Spine. The purpose is to spotlight upcoming releases that we are eagerly anticipating.

This week I am dying to read To All the Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han.

To All the Boys I've Loved Before
by Jenny Han
Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers
April 22nd 2014
To All the Boys I've Loved Before is the story of Lara Jean, who has never openly admitted her crushes, but instead wrote each boy a letter about how she felt, sealed it, and hit it in a box under her bed. But one day, Lara Jean discovers that somehow her secret box of letters has been mailed, causing all her crushes from her past to confront her about the letters...

First and foremost I just love this cover. The title in the handwritten sharpie font? PERFECTION.

Secondly, when I was in grade school my little brother sent a letter to my crush telling him I liked him. Looking back now I think it's hilarious, but when it happened I was so, so, embarrassed. I'm so curious to see how this type of situation is approached fictionally and for a character who is obviously not in grade school like I was. I just love the concept and of course I'm a huge Jenny Han fan so I can't wait to see what she does with it.

Last but not least:

The protagonist is a hapa!!!!

What books are you guys waiting on today? Be sure to let me know and link me to your WoW post in the comments!

    1. You've never heard of Jenny Han before? You DEFINITELY need to check out her other stuff, especially The Summer I Turned Pretty! Ohhh and I'll definitely have to look at S&S's spring catalog. I'm always so behind on these things. Thanks for the heads up! :D

  2. AHHHH! I'm reading The Summer that I Turned Pretty, which made me a Jenny Han fan. I'm really looking forward to this as well (too bad it's coming out in 2014) and I'm really happy that the protagonist is a hapa! :)

    1. I know right? I wish it was coming out sooner, but then again Jenny Han (and Siobhan Vivian) are coming out with Fire with Fire this fall so I can't complain too much. It's not like she isn't working hard cranking out other awesome books right? Thanks for stopping by and commenting! :D

  3. This sounds SO good! I hadn't heard of it before but I'm off to add it to my TBR list, ASAP. I would be mortified if something like that happened to me. I used to never tell my crushes that I liked them either. I didn't write letters but I can only imagine the craziness that would ensue after all the letters were mailed to them.

Wait. Timeout. This doesn't come out until 2014?! That's way too far away. But it looks like it'll be out in time for summer which will be perfect!

I would've threatened my brother with his life if he had done that to me!

    1. I would totally be mortified if it happened to me now too. After the situation with my brother sending the letter to my grade school crush I kept my crushes extremely secret. :P

I KNOW! I wish it were coming out sooner. I just want to read it so badly!

  4. This looks absolutely incredible! I love it when authors come up with such unique situations for characters. There's so much cliche going on in contemporary ya that it just frustrates me sometimes. But that's why this looks SO good! Thanks for sharing; it's going on my TBR list! :)

    1. Oh my goodness yes there is definitely too much cliche contemporary YA out right now. That's why this one excites me so much, the plot is so original and like nothing I've read before! I'm so glad that I could get you excited about it too. :D
