This week I'm comparing the covers from one of my favorite books: The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks by E. Lockhart. Check out the two different covers below!
Hardback Cover Paperback Cover
Hardback Cover: I LOVE this cover. I know I end up saying that about a lot of covers but this one is on my list of my all time favorites. The whole envelope theme is perfect for the story, especially with the basset hound seal. Plus it really makes me want to delve into the book because its so darn intriguing! I just have to know whats lurking behind the envelope. Or maybe that's just me. :P
Paperback Cover: This cover just can't compare to the original. Plus, is it just me or does this cover totally scream "Nancy Drew Mystery Story"? It really reminds me of the cover for the Secret of Red Gate Farm. I know they aren't really that similar but still. I'm just not feeling it. :/
So who wins? The hardback cover all the way! It's smart, intriguing, and it looks classy. The paperback cover looks a little too juvenile in comparison.

To be honest I'm not really a fan of either cover. I think the hardback is too plain, and the paperback is too juvenile, I agree. But if I had to pick on then I'd go for the hardback!

Definitely agree on the classy-ness, and I think I'm prejudiced because I read this one when ONLY the hardcover was out. So 200+ pages of staring at a certain cover will do that to you, haha.
ReplyDeleteI love the hardcover design! I'm partial, though, because wax stamps like the one on it are a weakness for me. I love them so much. P.S. I think your new site design is great!
