US Cover UK Cover
US Cover: I LOVE this cover! The color scheme is just gorgeous and it totally captures the beauty of the sunset on the lake which is actually an important image in the story. In fact, I feel like this cover is a perfect representation for the book. Whoever designed this gets major kudos!
UK Cover: If you've seen the UK cover for Morgan Matson's first book Amy and Roger's Epic Detour, then this cover design will be familiar for you. I like what these covers are trying to do, but I'm just not feeling this one. It gives off a happy go lucky vibe, but this book is much more than that, and I certainly wouldn't call it happy go lucky. This cover is okay, but not great.
So who wins? I'm definitely giving it to the US cover. Everything about it is perfect from the colors to the symbolism. I just love it! The UK cover is alright, but I just don't think it captures the right vibe for Second Chance Summer.

In the UK version, does Chevy Chase feature as one of the characters? That's completely what it looks like. DEFINITELY the U.S. wins this round.
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure Chevy Chase is never mentioned in the story... Haha. :P
DeleteI totally agree with you! I haven't read the book, but from what I've heard the U.K. cover doesn't seem to go with the book at all. It does kinda have the same theme as A&R's in UK, doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteYou know the candy Starburst? The color scheme and font make me think of that candy, lol!
Yeah it's got the same hand drawn motifs thing going on. I think it worked for A&R because of the fact that it was a road trip book and the book itself had the little scrapbook things scattered throughout so it worked. With this one, not so much. Bahahaha the starbursts thing is so true!!! XD
DeleteI haven't read the book but I like the US cover so much better.
ReplyDeleteI really like both covers. I wasn't keen on the UK cover at all until I saw it in person and now I really like it. Both have different feels, and I'm honestly not sure which one I prefer!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on liking the US cover more - and I haven't even read the book. The UK cover is cute... but it's maybe trying too hard?
ReplyDeleteTotally US.
