It's been three years since the devastating accident ... three years since Mia walked out of Adam's life forever.
Now living on opposite coasts, Mia is Julliard's rising star and Adam is LA tabloid fodder, thanks to his new rock star status and celebrity girlfriend. When Adam gets stuck in New York by himself, chance brings the couple together again, for one last night. As they explore the city that has become Mia's home, Adam and Mia revisit the past and open their hearts to the future - and each other.
Told from Adam's point of view in the spare, lyrical prose that defined If I Stay, Where She Went explores the devastation of grief, the promise of new hope, and the flame of rekindled romance.
I read If I Stay on family vacation earlier this year. It was amazing, it was heartbreaking, and if my brothers hadn't been present while I was reading I would have been bawling my eyes out. Well Where She Went is all that and more. You thought If I Stay was good? Well you ain't read nothing yet!
Adam, Adam, Adam you are like one of the most hearthrobiest, wonderfullest guys in YA literature EVER!!! Why weren't you on my fictional crushes list before? Well you definitely are now! I loved Adam in If I Stay but he is even better in Where She Went. And the fact that its told entirely from his perspective? Genius. Poor Adam starts the book as a sad, lost soul. He has it all: fame, fortune, and super hot girlfriend, but inside he is totally empty. Then Mia comes back and he has a chance to make it right. Tie up the loose ends. Find the answers. And he does. Its beautiful. Ohhh and Mia why did you leave Adam? You are CRAZY. Just thought you should know.
Gayle Foreman utilizes flashbacks to help tell the story just like in If I Stay. As the night goes on the story begins to unfold and the slowly details of Adam and Mia's relationship are revealed. The pacing is perfect and there are several "Oh my gosh I'm gonna cry!" moments. I think I ended up crying like 3 times throughout the book. Happy tears, sad tears. Gayle Foreman tugs at your heart and fills you with all sorts of crazy emotions. She is SUCH a phenomenal author.
I can't say much more without giving away the story but I think its pretty clear that I LOVED this book. It made me so happy, and sad all at the same time and the ending was absolutely perfect. (highlight for spoiler)
It was a little Nicholas Sparksesque near the end (not that I've read any Nicholas Sparks books....) but whatevs. Mia and Adam ended up together. TOGETHER!!!! That's all that matters. :P
All in all Where She Went is one of the best books I've ever read. If you only bother to read one book this year (and knowing you my lovely followers you will definitely be reading more but still!) then make that book Where She Went.
No question about it this book gets 5 out of 5 ice cream cones!
READ. THIS. BOOK. You won't be disappointed.
Julia :)
I didn't read the review in case of spoilers, but I plan to read this. I hope soon. :)
