Book Review: I Am Number Four
Nine of us came here. We look like you. We talk like you. We live among you. But we are not you. We can do things you dream of doing. We have powers you dream of having. We are stronger and faster than anything you have ever seen. We are the superheroes you worship in movies and comic books but we are real. Our plan was to grow, and train, and become strong, and become one, and fight them. but they found us and started hunting us first. Now all of us are running. Spending our lives in shadows, in places where no one would look, blending in . We have lived among you without you knowing.
But they know.
They caught Number One in Malaysia.
Number Two in England.
And Number Three in Kenya.
They killed them all.
I am Number Four.
I am next.
I'm normally not a give fan of sci-fi stuff. Aliens and all that have just never been my cup of tea. In fact I only found out about this book because I saw the trailer for the movie and at first I didn't even want to read it. But then I read a lot of positive reviews for it so I decided to give it a go. I was pleasantly surprised! While not the best book I Am Number Four was entertaining with lots of action, mystery, suspense, and dare I say it.... romance. :)
The thing that I liked best about this book was the way the aliens were portrayed. Normally aliens are little green men or evil creatures trying to take over the world. But in I Am Number Four the Lorien aliens were very normal. In fact the only real difference between them and normal humans were their crazy cool super powers! I like that the Lorien aliens had a humanity to them. Now not all the aliens in I Am Number Four were good. On the other side of the spectrum there were the Mogodorians. And these guys were just plain CREEPY. But there was definitely a clear line drawn between the good Loriens, and the evil world domination seeking Mogodorians.
The story did start out a little slow but once I got into it I was hooked! The only complaint I think I would have is that the plot is a little unoriginal. Who hasn't heard of a story that involves aliens trying to take over the world? But there was just enough ingenuity and intrigue to keep me interested. I don't know whether or not I will read the next books in the series. Granted I liked the book, but it wasn't so amazing that I would necessarily want to read more. This is probably because of my lukewarm feelings towards the sci-fi genre in general. We'll see what happens when the sequel comes out.
Overall I give I Am Number Four 4 out of 5 cupcakes!
I am super psyched for the movie to come out in February! Here is the movie trailer for your viewing pleasure.
It looks sooo good!!!! Especially since it stars British actor Alex Pettyfer as Number Four. Ever since my sister and I saw him in the Alex Rider movie a couples years back we have been big fans of his. Hehe.
Oh and thanks to everyone who voted in my poll last week! Apparently pretty much everyone loves the book Impossible. I am certainly enjoying it so far!

I thought the book was all right; I actually enjoyed the less-sci-fi parts, like how John went to high school. The ending for me was just a bit bizarre.
ReplyDeleteI agree, I want to see the movie, too!! To be honest it looks better than the book, *especially* with Alex Pettyfer. Yum. ;)
Great review! I have heard this book is good. I need to read it before the movie. I have so much trouble reading a book if I watched the movie first.
ReplyDeleteI so need to read this book. I've heard great things.

this is one of the best sci-fi books I've ever read and mind you, i'm not even a fan of sci-fi.
